Frames
3D Frames
View and interact with 3D models in Frames.
3D Frames let you view and interact with 3D models. Orbit around models, adjust lighting, and use turntable mode for automatic rotation.
3D Navigation
3D Frames use specialized controls for navigating 3D space:
Orbit/Rotate
Drag with Wheel Drag Space Drag to rotate the camera around the model.
Pan
Hold Shift Drag and drag to pan the camera.
Zoom
Use Wheel Z Drag to zoom the camera in and out.
Reset View
Double-click or press ⌘ R to reset the camera to the default position.
Turntable Mode
Enable turntable mode to automatically rotate the model, perfect for viewing all angles without manual interaction:
- Right-click the 3D Frame
- Toogle on Turntable from the context menu
- The model rotates continuously
Toggle turntable off to stop the automatic rotation and return to manual control.
Background Options
Choose different backgrounds for your 3D models:
Transparent
Show the model with no background.
Solid Gray
Display the model against a solid gray background.
HDRI
Use an HDRI environment map for more realistic lighting.
Access background options from the context menu.
GPU Requirements
3D Frames require GPU acceleration to render models. GPU availability is determined at Refbox launch based on your system's hardware capabilities. If GPU is unavailable:
- You cannot import any 3D Assets
- Existing 3D Frames will show an error state
- An error notification will appear explaining why GPU could not be accessed
If you're experiencing performance issues with 3D models, close any programs that are consuming excess GPU memory, then restart Refbox.
Context Menu Actions
Right-click a 3D Frame to access:
Opacity
Quick opacity adjustment slider.
Grayscale
Toggle grayscale mode.
Turntable
Toggle automatic rotation on/off.
Orthographic
Toggle the orthographic camera (instead of the perspective camera)
Default Material
Replaces the model's materials with solid gray.
Wireframe
Overlay a wireframe on top of the model.
Background
Choose solid gray, transparent, or HDRI background.
Color Picker
Copy the HEX color code of any pixel on your screen.
Save As
Export the 3D model file to your computer.
Lock
Lock the Frame to prevent keyboard or mouse interaction.
Reset
Reset camera position and Frame transformations.
Close
Close the Frame.
Tips and Best Practices
Use turntable mode to get a complete view of the model without manually orbiting.
Try HDRI backgrounds for more realistic lighting and to see how the model looks in different environments.
Enable grayscale to study form and shape without being distracted by color or texture.
Adjust opacity and lock the Frame to trace over 3D models in 2D painting apps.
