Settings let you customize how Refbox behaves, looks, and responds to your input. Settings are organized into tabs, each controlling a specific aspect of the app.

Settings Tabs

Refbox organizes settings into focused tabs:

Style

Customize UI scale, Box position, colors, and visual styling.

Behavior

Control Box, Group, and Media import behavior.

Toolbar

Choose which actions appear in the Toolbar.

Quick Settings Overview

Style Settings

Customize visual style:

App

UI Scale: Adjust overall interface size
Display: Choose which monitor shows Refbox
Hide from Dock/Taskbar: Keep Refbox out of system UI
Show on All Desktops: Keep Refbox visible when switching between virtual desktops or full screen apps

Box

Box Position: Left or Right side of screen
Box Background: None, Ghost, or Dark
Show Box Scrollbar: Toggle scrollbar visibility

Preview

Preview Size: Small, Medium, or Large Preview Frames
Preview Position: Top, Middle, or Bottom alignment

Media

Media Corners: None, Small, or Large Frame corner rounding

Group

Group Background: None, Ghost, or Dark

Masonry

Max Masonry Width: Small, Medium, or Large column sizes

Behavior Settings

Control how Refbox responds to your actions:

Box

Keep Toolbar Open: Always show the Toolbar vs. show on hover
Auto Hide Box: Hide the Box sidebar when not in use
Auto Hide Method: Choose Edge Hover or Reveal Button
Maintain Width: Keep the same Box width when switching Boxes
Auto-Preview Notes: Automatically open newly created text notes

Group

Default Group Mode: Grid, Column, or Masonry layout

Media

Import Quality: Low, Medium, or High quality for media
URL Import: Ask Me, Link, or Screenshot for URLs

Controls Settings

Fine-tune input and interaction:

Global Shortcuts

Show/Hide App: Toggle app visibility
Show/Hide Gallery: Toggle gallery visibility

Mouse

Scroll Sensitivity: Adjust scroll and zoom strength

Zoom/Scroll

Frames, Groups, Gallery: Choose whether the mouse wheel zooms or scrolls by default
Hold the modifier key to do the opposite action

Frames

Frame Scaling: Free or Fixed resizing (hold Shift for opposite)

Manage your Box data:

Export Boxes: Save one or more Boxes to .refbox files
Import Boxes: Import Boxes from .refbox files

Deactivate License: Free up a license slot

Accessing Settings

Toolbar Button

Click the Settings icon in the Toolbar.

App Shortcut

Use ⌃ , to open the settings modal when the Refbox app is focued.

Tips for Using Settings

Experiment with zoom/scroll behavior in Controls to find what feels most natural for your input device.

Adjust import quality based on your needs - use Low for quick references, High for detailed work.

Enable Auto Hide to maximize workspace area while keeping the Box easily accessible.

Export Boxes from Data settings to open them on your other devices.
